Meet the dynamic people behind our operations.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Rick Sinnett, President
Rick Sinnett of Mustang, Oklahoma, is well-known for his murals throughout the state. Many featuring pollinators such as the Eastern monarch and Black swallowtail butterflies. Initially partnering with Okies for Monarchs in 2020 to produce the monarch butterfly license plate, Rick has remained pro-actively involved in generating support for monarch conservation in Oklahoma.
Creatively inspired by nature, Rick is a self-taught muralist, printmaker, and curator. His artwork, which characteristically has bold lines, also typically includes vibrant colors and repeated patterns. His early artistic career took him to California where he adopted the moniker “Mothman”, due to the animals and natural elements which serve as the foundation of his compositions. There, he sold his screenprints and ink drawings. He also began giving away hand-drawn artworks in exchange for the recipient expressing concern or kindness to others who they may encounter. This initial exchange became the basis for his “art for the people” approach to his career, including murals and “art drops” using social media.
Rick’s creativity and passion for monarch conservation on our leadership team accentuates our belief in the nexus of science, art and nature.

While at The Nature Conservancy, she organized and developed the wildly popular bison and monarch license plates, as well as successfully passed a Public Lands Resolution with the Oklahoma Legislature which was a surprisingly difficult task. Additionally, she launched a 12-month webinar series during COVID that reached 11 countries and showcased conservation activities live to the public such as the Bison Roundup at the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve.

Stefanie Leland, Director of Communications & Marketing
Stefanie Leland is a conservation enthusiast and creative storyteller from western Oklahoma. With Bachelor’s degrees in both Biology and Theatre Arts, as well as an associate degree in Film and Video Production, Stefanie blends her love for nature with her passion for the arts.
Early in her career, Stefanie directed and produced environmental documentaries, including Bokoshe: In the Air We Breathe for the Sierra Club Cimarron Group and Where Did the Horny Toad Go?, an independent feature. She has also worked on a variety of creative endeavors, including national commercials and Her Flag, a nationwide art project by Marilyn Artus celebrating the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment.
Prior to working at the Oklahoma Monarch Society she served as the Marketing and Communications Manager at the Oklahoma Arts Institute, where she helped amplify the organization’s mission and foster a deeper connection to the arts.
When she isn’t working, Stefanie enjoys life on a 20-acre farm forest near Choctaw with her husband, son, and daughter. She can often be found tending to plants, observing wildlife, or painting nature-inspired watercolors. Stefanie is grateful to have found a role at the Oklahoma Monarch Society that allows her to marry her passion for conservation with her professional work, helping to protect pollinators and the ecosystems they support.

Stephanie Jordan, Pollinator Educator & Outreach Coordinator
Stephanie Jordan is the Pollinator Educator and Outreach Coordinator for the Oklahoma Monarch Society where she leads educational outreach activities for the Okies for Monarchs program. In this role, she has galvanized communities across Oklahoma to engage in pollinator conservation and create habitats for monarchs and other pollinators.
She began her outreach work in conservation in 2007 when she became the chair of the Conservation Committee of her local Sierra Club group. Recognizing the political challenges of conservation outreach at the time in this region, she led the group’s efforts into a new campaign, promoting and championing small-scale agriculture and local food systems, eventually helping to start a Buy Fresh Buy Local chapter for Central Oklahoma.
Over the next several years, her sustainable agriculture pursuits began redirecting everything from what she ate to where she lived. With no real livestock experience, she rented a house in the country on five acres and spent a year raising pastured pigs and chickens on a steep learning curve. Upon returning to the city, she took up urban beekeeping, and interned on an organic farm, where she learned to grow organic starter plants to sell at the farmers market, and began a deep dive into the complexities of soil health. She eventually became a partner on the farm and redirected their plant focus to those in support of pollinators, which dramatically increased sales, helped fulfil an unmet market need and began her love affair with butterflies.
When not engaged in pollinator education and advocacy, she can often be found exploring the expansive network of pollinator habitat in the urban farming community that has been her home for more than a decade, in search of cool bugs.
Stephanie has a BS from the University of Central Oklahoma, where her major areas of study were construction, creative writing and music. She is a Certified Pollinator Steward through Pollinator Partnership.
